CARTA's annual conference brings together educators, scholars, and students to share research, innovative teaching practices, and professional experiences. The conference provides a welcoming forum for exchanging ideas, exploring current issues in Russian language and area studies, and building lasting professional connections across our region and beyond.

Let’s gather in XXX in the spring to salute our services to the US students and educators in the field of Russian Language, Literature, and Culture, and to recognize our colleagues’ contributions to the field.

Conference and Hotel Information

The conference will be held at the XXX Hotel located at XXXX. Rooms have been pre-booked at the special rate of $XX.00, single or double occupancy. The parking fee is $XX.00. Make your reservations no later than 5:00 pm on Thursday, February 26, 2027, by calling the hotel at XXXXX and ask for the CARTA Room Block.

International Members: CARTA will host ONE virtual session for international members only on Saturday, March XX 9:00-11:00 am Central Daylight Time (GMT -5), via Zoom. The link will be provided for registered conference participants at a later date.

Poetry Contest: CARTA will continue to host a pre-conference Poetry Contest. A description and rules will be sent in a separate mailing. Please note that due to Spring breaks at many schools, the Poetry Contest will be held at the earlier date: XXXXXX.

Yevgeny Yevtushenko Poetry Recital Contest

CARTA is delighted to announce its annual poetry Recital Contest. The event is organized to commemorate the memory of CARTA’s Honorary Member, world- renown poet, Yevgeny Yevtushenko.

The Contest will be in the Zoom format and is scheduled for TBA. The Contest will start at 1 p.m. Central Standard time and will last until all of the participants present their poems.

The contest will be judged by a panel of three judges appointed by the CARTA Board.

The winners will be announced at the CARTA Conference Awards Luncheon in TBA, TBA, on TBA, 2027. The winners will be presented with certificates and prizes. Additionally, upon individual requests congratulatory letters will be sent to schools’ principals and Department Chairs.

Encourage your students to participate!

Terms of the Contest:

Participants should be full-time pre-university or university level students;
Readers must be students of an instructor who is a CARTA member in good standing;
Each Conference registree (instructor) can sign up to three participants (students);
Poems selected for recitation should be of a reasonable length but not shorter than 12 lines;
Contestants will recite the poems of their choice by heart;
Props during recitations are not allowed.

Deadline for applications: February 22nd, 2027. Please submit full names of the participating students and the titles of their poems directly to Mara Sukholutskaya at msukholu@ecok.edu.

Call for Papers

Submit proposals for individual papers, complete panels, and roundtables on Russian language, literature, history, social sciences, culture, methodology or related topics no later than January 15, 2027.

Travel Grants

CARTA will award four travel grants up to $250 to graduate students and Fulbright teaching assistants who will present a paper at the conference. Priority will be given to applicants with greater distances of travel. The recipients will be reimbursed on site at the end of the conference. If you wish to apply for the grant, please submit the following form by January 15, 2027. The awardees will be announced within a week after the submission deadline.
